List carton footprints, weights, pick quantities and order-line demand. Repeat picks can use defined lanes, while slow or irregular items may need shelving or other direct-access positions. A wide assortment does not mean every item should receive the same lane width or the same depth of forward stock.

The smallest carton and the heaviest case both matter when selecting lane details. Packaging and underside contact affect travel, so representative boxes should be part of the consultation. Define how much stock stays at the pick face and how it is replenished from reserve rather than simply filling the available rack depth with cartons.

A load face behind the pick face can keep carton restocking from occupying the same working position as order picking. Draw that replenishment route together with the selective reserve area feeding it. Pallet traffic, hand picks and outbound preparation need distinct paths where the building arrangement allows them.

At a Hampton mega-DC or a smaller supplier overflow building, reserve and carton picking may require different beam elevations and row lengths. Newer 32–40 ft clear bulk buildings can hold taller reserve while the working carton area stays lower. Use the truck’s loaded reach for reserve positions and the actual pick process for the carton face.

Retail and consumer-goods imports move from Savannah via I-16 and I-75, often with mixed pallet footprints or floor-loaded containers. Receiving checks and carton preparation should have a defined buffer before goods reach forward lanes. Do not count that working area as permanent carton-flow capacity.
